From time to time I come across saxophones that I find interesting to restore. The following is such an instrument:
Buffet Prestige Alto Saxophone. This is a copper (rose brass) instrument, though without the S1 right hand pinky keys (i.e. - it has the usual RH pinky keys - see photos). Serial number is 36017E, produced circa 1985. The neck is engraved with the number 84E. The instrument has been completely overhauled - all lost motion has been removed, and it seals perfectly. The action is beautiful, exceptionally quiet, and seems quicker than more modern instruments, probably owing to its unique geometry. It is in perfect playing condition. The clear lacquer finish is worn, and the raw copper is exposed on roughly 10% of the body. Tuning is excellent throughout the entire range, and remains stable as you crescendo or decrescendo. This instrument is European tuning, but I have not had any trouble at A440. Middle D key has been modified with an adjustment screw to allow for tuning or perfect quarter tone scale. This horn has a big and flexible sound. It comes with a new, lightweight case.
Price: $3200
